Moving, Packing and Unpacking

I had mentioned back in June in a post A move is coming, that we were moving from New England, where I was born and raised, to the great state of Georgia. We bought of new house prior to selling our old house so that we could move at our own pace. This meant that we didn’t have to be out of the old house within a certain time frame. Since I was still working in New England it gave me a place to stay until the whole “work thing” was figured out. More on that later.

Moving Options

I did a ton of research on moving company’s, pods, rental trucks, and the thought of selling everything and starting fresh. In the end, we decided to go with

DIY Toilet Install

Toilet Project

Last week we returned from a Thanksgiving visit and had been away for about 5 days. I took a quick walk around the house to make sure everything was OK and no issues had come up. To my surprise the guest bathroom had water on the floor.  I quickly found that the toilet tank was leaking from the hose. I cleaned up the water which wasn’t a lot, so I am guessing it started within the last day. The leak was a small drip every 5 minutes or so. I grabbed a wrench and tightened the hose and the leaked stopped or so I thought. Two days later we came home and again the floor was wet. Same leak as before.

Net Worth Update #8 – Nov ’17

I can’t believe this is the second to last Net Worth update of the year. November absolutely flew by, it seems just like yesterday was Halloween. This is the first month since late spring that we have had 1 mortgage and set of utility bills. Based on the overall numbers you will see the positive impact of this. We had anticipated seeing a decrease of $500 a month moving and hopefully within the next month, we can verify this. As of right now, we think it might be a bit more than this. Mainly due to the taxes, water, electricity, and heating all costing less on a monthly basis.

November proved positive on many fronts, including my job. I had mentioned in the post about putting it all together that I had never tracked

Net Worth Update #7 – Oct ’17

Once again, I am late with this month’s Net Worth Update. It has been another busy month, but a lot of good news came in October. As I mentioned last month we had accepted an offer on the house. I have to say without to much hassle the house has closed and we are back to 1 mortgage. This is reflected in this month’s numbers. I will be writing a post about the entire process, costs, and fees this month.

October was definitely a positive month on all fronts. I had mentioned in the post about putting it all together that I had never tracked or officially calculated our net worth. I started back in April 2017 with the first Net Worth Update #1  and will continue to track and post monthly. October provided a huge jump in our net worth, which was driven

Net Worth Update #6 – Sep ’17

Talk about a lag of posts in September, apologizes, but it has been a hectic month. In fact, so hectic that this Net Worth update is over a week late. The biggest news from September is we accepted an offer on our house (yahoo). The sale is planned to complete towards the end of October. What’s that mean and what have I been doing? Glad you asked. The majority of my time has been spent fixing a handful of small issues that came from the inspection. The rest has been scheduling and dealing with other required inspections (fire, termite, etc). Hopefully nothing happens over the next few weeks and we can be back down to one mortgage, Yes (fist pump)!!

September proved to be another great month. I had mention in the post about putting it all together that I had never tracked or officially calculated our net worth.
